Temasek Cares – Support for Students from Dysfunctional Families
Social work support for students with family issues
Partner: Assumption Pathway School
Assumption Pathway School partnered Temasek Cares to start a social work support programme for students from dysfunctional families in 2011. Under the programme, family social workers from the school visit the students in their homes to help them overcome challenges which affect their emotional well-being and attendance at school.
The enhanced programme provides specialised support for students from single-parent families or who suffer from trauma arising from family violence. The school works with HELP Family Service Centre to provide home-based intervention for single-parent families, and with PAVe (Promoting Alternatives to Violence) to reach out to students who are victims of family violence. PAVe also trains teachers from the school to identify victims of family trauma , who may not come forward readily, and how best to support them in the classroom and homes.
The 2-year programme expects to benefit 120 students and their family members.
