Temasek Cares - EIPIC Bursary
Helping children from lower-income families access early intervention programmes
Partner: National Council of Social Service and EIPIC centres
The EIPIC Bursary programme helps children with special needs from lower-income families to attend early intervention at Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) centres. EIPIC centres provide therapy and early educational support services for children six years and below, diagnosed to be at risk of having a disabling condition or special need. Currently, there are 17 such centres run by voluntary welfare organisations which serve approximately 1,500 children.
Lower-income families with children having developmental needs may face increased financial challenges. These children may incur higher transport costs if they have difficulties taking public transport and require more costly special transport arrangements.
The EIPIC bursary helps these families financially and allows the child to continue attending the programme. This 2-year programme supports 315 children each year and is administered by the National Council of Social Service.
