Temasek Cares – Healthcare Building Capability Project
Building capabilities of Intermediate and Long-Term Care (ILTC) in Singapore
Partner: Agency for Integrated Care (AIC)
The Intermediate to Long-Term Care (ILTC) sector plays a critical role in meeting the needs of an ageing population. It caters to patients suffering from age-related chronic illnesses such as stroke, diabetes and dementia. These patients require longer-term rehabilitative care in institutions such as Community Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Rehabilitation Centres, Dementia Day Centres, Hospices, etc. To meet growing demand, the ILTC sector needs more trained nurses and allied health professionals. It is projected that the sector needs an additional 300 nurses, 400 nursing aides and 75 therapists over the next three years (2010-2013).
The Temasek Cares Healthcare Building Capability Project aims to help build capabilities in the sector. The programme offers scholarships, study awards and training grants to attract more talent as well as upgrade the skills of in-service workers. For more details on the various awards and supported courses of study, please refer to the website of the Agency for Integrated Care (www.aic.sg).
