Temasek Cares -
‘Stay Prepared' Starter Kits
Building community resilience to emergencies
Singapore Power, Singapore Post
Singapore is a safe city. However, unforeseen events can impact us at any time. The 'Stay Prepared' Starter Kits programme aims to help people in Singapore cope with emergencies and crises through the distribution of ‘Stay Prepared’ Starter Kits to every household. Each Starter Kit contains three 3M™ N95 face masks, instructions on how to wear the masks and emergency contact numbers. In total, 1.2 million ‘Stay Prepared’ Starter Kits will be distributed to all households in Singapore, including 17,000 kits to charity homes.
The intent of the ‘Stay Prepared’ Starter Kits is to encourage people in Singapore to start thinking about, and preparing for, various emergencies and unforeseeable events. Providing three face masks will ensure that each household has an initial supply in the event of severe haze or an outbreak of pandemic flu. Individuals and families are encouraged to add the Starter Kits to their family and personal emergency grab bags.
This nationwide programme is a collaboration between Temasek Cares and Singapore Power, supported by Singapore Post. It is the second programme launched by Temasek Cares under its ‘Stay Prepared’ initiative. The first, Temasek Cares KITS (Kids In Tough Situations) was launched on April 16, 2014. Both the programmes and the ‘Stay Prepared’ initiative are backed by the Temasek Emergency Preparedness Fund (TEPrep Fund) which was established by Temasek Holdings with an endowment of S$40m in March 2014, as part of its 40th anniversary community initiative.
The Starter Kits programme is a significant step to realise Temasek Cares’ vision of a resilient Singapore community – one that is ready for the unexpected, responds effectively to crises and recovers quickly from adversity. Temasek Cares will continue to come alongside people and partners in Singapore to create greater awareness of additional ways to be prepared.
