Temasek Foundation Cares is a Singapore-based non-profit philanthropic organisation that funds and supports meaningful and innovative community-based programmes for the benefit of Singaporeans. It aims to contribute to the well-being, dignity and livelihood of needy individuals, families and communities by building people, building communities, building capabilities and rebuilding lives.
In addition to its existing endowment, Temasek Foundation Cares also oversees three others - the Balaji Sadasivan Endowment for healthcare capability building, the Ee Peng Liang Endowment for social services capability building and the Temasek Emergency Preparedness (T-PREP) Fund for enhancing community emergency resilience and preparedness.
Programmes supported by Temasek Foundation Cares are implemented in partnership with various voluntary welfare organisations, non-profit organisations, government agencies and other institutions. Together with these partners, it pilots new ideas and models of care to foster positive and sustained social impact within the community, fulfilling the needs for care now and in future.
Since its establishment till 31 March 2016, Temasek Foundation Cares has funded and supported 95 programmes, benefitting 29,000 people. The beneficiaries included people with disabilities, those who need psychological support, children with learning and developmental needs, abused women and children, single parents, needy families and the elderly requiring long term care. Programmes under the T-PREP Fund have also touched the lives of 1.2 million households.
Several of Temasek Foundation Cares’ pilot social care and healthcare models have since been widely replicated in the community, creating a positive social impact with a multiplier effect beyond the initial number of direct beneficiaries served during the pilot phases.
Temasek Foundation Cares, along with Temasek Foundation International, Temasek Foundation Connects, Temasek Foundation Nurtures, Temasek Foundation Innovates and Temasek Foundation Ecosperity, is guided by its respective strategic thrusts and mandates to drive its community programmes.
Temasek Trust, together with the six Foundations and Temasek Foundation Management Services, form the Temasek Philanthropic Platform. Temasek established the Platform to better serve the evolving needs of the wider community, reinforcing its approach to sustainable giving. To date, over S$2 billion has been committed for community initiatives, which have since touched the lives of more than 300,000 people in Singapore and across Asia.
Temasek is guided by the three roles in its Temasek Charter, which defines it as an active investor and shareholder, a forward looking institution and a trusted steward. As a steward, it has a stake in the well-being of the wider community and exercises good stewardship by safeguarding its past reserves, investing for the long term and contributing to the community at large.
Since inception in 1974, Temasek has established 17 endowments, which focus on building people, building communities, building capabilities, and rebuilding lives. Beginning in 2003, Temasek instituted a policy of setting aside a share of its excess returns above its risk-adjusted cost of capital for contributions to the wider community in Singapore and beyond.

Mission and Role
The purpose and mission of Temasek Foundation Cares is to contribute to the well-being, dignity and livelihood of underprivileged individuals, families and communities in Singapore.
In carrying out its mission, Temasek Foundation Cares seeks to partner with various established organisations to support existing programmes, or to develop needed new programmes which contribute to the well-being, dignity and livelihood of our beneficiaries. As a community co-investor, Temasek Foundation Cares looks to join with other donors to complement the efforts of the Government as part of the "Many Helping Hands" approach to helping the less fortunate. As a catalyst, we hope to support new programmes or models that can bring about better outcomes to those in need. As a leader, we hope to inspire and attract other donors to worthy causes which are under-served and which could do with more support.
